Our thoughts
Osprey creates a lot of great bags. It seems every week I have to add a new Osprey carry-on luggage to the website.
The Quasar is a reasonably small one bag that looks to be more suited for short trips. With only 28L of capacity, you'll have less than half the amount of clothing space of a 40L or 45L model.
Remember, even though you can half the clothes doesn't mean you can use half the toiletries and other miscellaneous items. Imagine trying to bring half a travel deodorant. Are you cutting the stick with a razor blade?
This particular model of Osprey has a laptop sleeve, which many of the travel models lack.
Although the bag is small, what matters most is what you pack inside it. Small bags mean less weight and more comfort.
Osprey still manufactures incredible bags. If you are looking to go on shorter trips, then this bag is perfect for you.
This bag would be perfect for people that travel for short periods of time. Here in the US, airfare is expensive, and it would be rare to fly on a plane just for a weekend trip. Elsewhere in the world, like Europe, cheap airfare is more common, so short trips are worth the price.
One thing I like about this bag is that it could also function as a manageable day pack. If you had a safe place to drop off the extra stuff you could carry around adventure gear with the Quasar. Lugging around a bigger 40L or 45L bag for a beach trip with swimsuit and suntan lotion is way overboard.
Our verdict
Reasons to buy
- Side compression straps really tighten up the bag; preventing it from looking sloppy.
- Offers good organization due to its numerous pockets.
- Comfortable padding on the straps and on the back panel.
- Made from quality materials and lightweight.
Things to consider
- Laptop sleeve is a little "thin" or "narrow."
- The laptop compartment isn't really secure as it has no straps nor clips to hold your laptop in place.
What reviewers said
- "We looked at lots of packs in this size, and this was the standout. Nearly as comfortable as the Marmot Tool Box and Patagonia Refugio, and as sturdy as the TNF Borealis, this is by far the easiest daypack to load."
- "All I can say is that I’ll never need another bag again, everything I need fits and it’s very intuitive, not to mention it’s tough as nails."
