Our verdict

Reasons to buy

  • Incredibly sturdy and made from recycled materials.
  • The back panel can give you access to the main compartment (aside from the topzip/flap opening) which is truly convenient when you need to grab something from the middle or bottom of the pack.
  • Comes with Ironclad Guarantee that the company honors.
  • Roomy to use. It can carry more things than it seems it can.

Things to consider

  • A little more internal organization would be appreciated.
  • Not the most comfortable pack to carry for extended periods of time.

What reviewers said

  • "I recently crashed my bike as I was commuting to work. The quality of the pack and the stiffness of the material allowed my fall to break as I slammed into the sidewalk. I also checked my helmet and there was no damage to my head or helmet because the backpack runs so close to my head. The straps kept the pack close to my body and it turned a pretty gnarly spill into a cushioned fall that could have been a lot worse."
  • "I did not buy this bag for climbing but for snowboarding, OCR events, and weekend getaways. I've only used it once but it's as to be expected with Patagonia — as described, sturdy, and ready to take a beating. Looking forward to all my trips with it."
  • "I used this backpack for a month-long trip around Europe. I was able to fit in two large compression cubes, a large toiletry bag, my laptop, and an electronics pouch. For this purpose it was fantastic - I needed all the space I could get to pack my clothes in. When I take it hiking with me it also works very well, but that's when I wish it had the same top access pocket the 45L does as other reviews have mentioned. I usually just throw a pouch in to make my own extra pocket and it works great. I've also used it as my carry on item with no problems."
  • "I use this for trad climbing, mostly cragging and it is perfect. easy to pack and super easy to sort through everything. just throw it down and unzip it and everything is there in front of you. also nice top compartment. honestly its perfect"

Patagonia Cragsmith Pack 35L Review
northeastalpinestart.com
When looked at objectively for the intended use “cragging” this is a fantastic pack despite a couple short comings. If you find yourself schlepping gear from parking lot to cliff in less than a mile on a regular basis this is a contender to make your life easier. Check it out at your local Patagonia store or online here.
