Our thoughts
Tom Bihn is a legendary carry-on maker so you know this bag is well made and has all the features you'll need.
Going with an established bag maker is always a great choice. A person named Tom Bihn started Tom Bihn over 40 years ago. 40 years of experience means this bag will hold up vs. the competitors. New carry-ons on Kickstarter won't have the same level of execution vs. an older company.
The Tom Bihn Synapse is one of the smaller one bags but still is enough for a 3-4 day trip. If you are flying on a more generous airline, consider the Synapse 25 for a little more space. 19L of capacity means you are fairly limited as to what you can pack.
Our verdict
Reasons to buy
- Made from truly durable materials.
- Minimalist design.
- There are several add-ons available for this bag which makes it customizable according to your needs.
Things to consider
- Can pack less things considering it's volume is at 19 liters.
- The placement of the water bottle pocket in the middle of the pack seems weird and inconvenient.
What reviewers said
- "After going through about 8 different bags over the years, I finally found one that works."
- "The 19 liters is just the right size for everything I need and then the stuff my kids want to add in for a trip or a run to the park. It is the most comfortable backpack I have owned. From the padded back to the shoulder straps, everything feels balanced just right when it is loaded up."

...on the performance side, it certainly delivers. Great organization and very sturdy....This bag is best suited for everyday carry. I can see people using as a light carry-on and maybe even some light hikes too...
