Our thoughts
The R6 Arkiv Field Pack is a complicated pack to write about. This carry on is an essential backpack but has dozens of modular add-ons and ways to customize the capacity and compartments of this bag.
You can customize the bag for a digital nomad type trip, short work trips, or vacations by purchasing add ons and additional components.
This bag would be great if you were looking for a single-carry item for different use cases.
Modular Use Cases
I could use a modular bag for work trips. Clothes take up more space for work trips because I have to bring additional professional looking clothes. To fit all those extra clothes, I bring along a 40L bag. To stay minimalist as possible, I don't carry a separate laptop bag and use the 40L. The 40L is too large for just a laptop bag. It would be nice to be able to attach extra compartments to pack clothes that I could then remove later.
The R6 Arkiv Field Pack would also be great for photographers or musicians as you could add on additional components depending on what you had to bring.
The bag has a roll-top and flap down configuration, which is useful if you need a little extra packing space.
The bag and all the components are waterproof both inside and out.
This bag also won the Best Work Backpack from Carrology.
Our verdict
Reasons to buy
- One of the customizable bags, if not the most, in the market. This feature gives the bag versatility.
- The main compartment can be closed with a roll-top or flat-down closing.
- Waterproof and highly durable.
- Comes with a lifetime warranty.
Things to consider
- The inner lining isn't attached to the pouches. Pulling out things may tend to pull out the inner lining which can be annoying and hassle at times.
- The top load design can be a bit of a hassle with shorter people because the main compartment can be too deep.
- Can be heavy when multiple modular pouches are attached.

It looks great in most environments and will keep your contents dry. The Arkiv Field packs come in lots of configurations, to which you can add lots of modules, giving you LOTS of options. Our favorite though is the R6, letting you add side pockets and a flat front pocket.
