On every trip I take I never know whether taking exercise gear will be worth it. Running shoes take up a lot of room and exercise shorts always smell unless they are entirely new. u/favoritecolorpurple decided that not only is he doing to bring exercise shorts, but he's also doing to run 18km with strangers.
I have no problem doing quick runs in hotels, but 18km is not a short run at all. Running is a great way to see a city, though.
Traveling by car in an area means you zoom by exotic sights and have no opportunity to stop if something is unusual. When I was in Germany a couple of years ago, some of the best memories I had were because we walked everywhere and were able to stop and explore interesting things. You wouldn't get those experiences traveling in a car.
Overall this list is excellent and well thought out. Love all the layering that the list has. Having clothes that can layer well provides you with flexibility. You are ready for any condition if you can add layers or remove them when it's too cold or hot.
